The American Bell OH-13 Sioux is an icon of aviation history. The helicopter with the distinctive design was developed immediately after the Second World War and distributed to the US Army in the late 1940s. Key features of the OH-13 Sioux were the "bubble roof", exposed rear boom (made of welded pipe), rigid blade landing rack and balloon-shaped fuel tanks. The single-rotor helicopter had a three-seat cabin configuration and could reach a top speed of 170 km/h. It was both robust and exceptionally reliable. During the Korean War, the OH-13 was widely used in large quantities, including enemy observation, extended reconnaissance and medical evacuation. Even at the beginning of the Vietnam War, the Sioux was still used as a reconnaissance helicopter.
